Paginated report in PowerBI

Paginated reports are reports that are designed to be printed or shared. They are called paginated because they are formatted to fit nicely on a page and display all of the data in a table, even if the table spans multiple pages. You can have complete control over the layout of the report pages.

Power BI Report Builder is a standalone tool used to create paginated reports for the Power BI service.

Prerequisite

License requirements for Power BI paginated reports (.rdl files) are the same as for Power BI reports (.pbix files).

PowerBI Report vs Paginated Report

Paginated reports are designed to print all of the data in a table, even if the table is very large. This is a major advantage over Power BI reports, which can only print the data that is visible on the page.

For example, if you have a table with 100,000 rows, and you place it in a Power BI report, you will only be able to see the first few rows of the table on the page. You can use the scroll bar to see the rest of the rows, but if you print the page, or export it to PDF, the only rows that will print are the ones that were visible on the page.

If you place the same table in a paginated report, and you print it or export it to PDF, the paginated report will have as many pages as necessary to print every row in the table.

Create Report in PowerBI Report builder

Power BI Report Builder is a new tool that you can use to create paginated reports for the Power BI service. It is based on the same technology as the tools that you used to create paginated reports for Power BI Report Server or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) You can open and edit paginated reports that you created for SSRS or Power BI Report Server in Power BI Report Builder. You can then publish these reports to the Power BI service. You can continue to use paginated reports that you created for older versions of SSRS or Power BI Report Server in the Power BI service. However, not all report features are available in the Power BI service.
